The Start of Christmas.
“How’s Santa gonna deliver gifts this year? If he goes to one house, and they have COVID, he’ll be spreading it to all the other houses he visits.” That’s when I realized our youngest still believes in Santa. I was shocked. I honestly thought last year was the end, when she asked me how Santa would get into our house because we don’t have a chimney. I can’t remember how I overcame that one, but I’m sure it wasn’t a brilliant answer.
Ava is inquisitive, sharp (and sometimes more mature than her 13 year-old brother) but I’m glad she balances it out with a childlike innocence that’s not too far gone yet.
I’m desperately holding on to every ounce of childhood I can get out of my growing kids. So this Christmas, I’m trying my best to make a lot of special little moments for the family. I won’t overthink it, or try to over- do it, but I’ll just be more intentional. If there’s any silver lining to 2020, it’s the renewed appreciation for keeping things simple, and focusing on the daily moments.
We decided to kick off the season by taking the family to pick a fresh Christmas tree from Apple Hill. Our kids were just babies the last time we had a real tree, so this made it a new experience for them. We put up our old fake tree, and added the real one to make 2 Christmas trees in the house.
I hope you’re creating ways to enjoy this season. I’d love to hear how you’re finding joy in the simple things, and leave me some tips if you have any!
